Introduction

Changhu Wang is currently the Head of Vision Technology at ByteDance. He received B.E. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Science and Technology of China, in 2004 and 2009, respectively. He was the Director of ByteDance AI Lab from 2017.3 to 2021.1. Before joining ByteDance AI Lab, he worked as a lead researcher in Microsoft Research from 2009 to 2017. He worked as a research engineer at the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering in National University of Singapore in 2008.

Changhu is leading a team with 400+ employees, playing diverse and important roles as scientist, engineers, and PMs in different directions and projects. They developed a range of vision, pan-AI and business solutions, covering the full process of content consumption and monetization of vision-related products in ByteDance, including content production, safety, ecosystem, distribution and monetization. They have supported more than 50 products such as Douyin, TikTok, Toutiao and Xigua, covering nearly all product lines.

Changhu has authored or co-authored about 100 papers in high-quality journals and conferences. He has 50+ patents granted. He also served as program committee member and reviewer for 20+ high-quality conferences and journals. He has Changhu is a board member of China Computer Federation, and an associate editor of IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology (TCSVT). He was awarded the Science and Technology Awards by CCCF (中国计算机学会), in the recognition of the mobile intelligent computer vision platform of ByteDance., He was awarded Microsoft Gold Star Award in 2011, in the recognition of his important contribution to Microsoft’s success. He received a Best Demo Award in ACM International Conference on Multimedia 2010 in the recognition of MindFinder system. He was awarded Microsoft Fellowship in 2007.
